This spacious home sits on five acres of land in the Kohala Estates. We specifically designed the house as a family vacation home, and we built it ourselves in 1989. Its high ceilings, 760 sq.ft. of windows and 13 ceiling fans make it particularly light and airy.

The 84' long covered lanai features 180 degree ocean views. With luck and timing you can spot Hawaiian spinner dolphins, humpback whales, or the occasional green flash. You can also see the Kohala Mountains, Mauna Kea, Mauna Loa, Hualalai, and nearly the entire South Kohala coast. We can't guarantee you blue skies and no mosquitos, but your odds are better here than anywhere else in the Central Pacific.

The house sits in the rain shadow of the Kohala Mountains, and the annual rainfall totals are typically in the low single digits! Spencer Beach State Park is a great "family" beach about five minutes away by car. It has shade trees and an offshore reef to moderate the waves. Hapuna Beach State Park is about ten minutes away with spectacular scenery and waves better suited to the energetic teenager. Even closer is Kawaihae Harbor with sport diving, fishing charters, some good restaraunts, and a couple of excellent art & craft galleries.

We have tried to make this a comfortable "home away from home" for our guests, and you won't need to bring much besides your toothbrush, camera and warm-weather clothes. If you have a particularly large family gathering, you can fold out futons and cots to sleep up to 16 guests comfortably. (Much beyond that and we recommend removing the crossword puzzles from the bathrooms!) Many of our guests come back for repeat visits, and our more popular dates can be booked over a year in advance. Fall and late spring generally have the best availabililty.
